HBO’s “Sports Guy” Bill Simmons was not paying attention to his family on Thanksgiving. Judging by his Twitter, he was glued to the television watching football, and far from impressed by Eagles coach Chip Kelly.
The embattled coach was embarrassed for the second straight week when his Eagles lost by four touchdowns…again. Simmons was firing off critical tweets.

Some coaches are just meant to stay in college. Rick Pitino once traded an unprotected lottery pick for Vitaly Potapenko. — Bill Simmons (@BillSimmons) November 26, 2015
Ouch. Simmons wasn’t holding back. Those two tweets sandwiched a knee-slapper though that might have some truth in it.

For those not keeping up with the college football season, Simmons is referencing the tenuous position current LSU coach Les Miles is in. Miles’ Tigers have lost three straight games and boosters have come together and said they’ll front the $15 million necessary to buy out his contract. The connection between Miles’ issues, and Kelly’s status in Philadelphia, isn’t lost on Simmons.
Kelly has been linked to numerous other jobs as well, including USC and Miami. Kelly also shouldn’t be ruled out for NFL jobs either, particularly the Titans, where his former QB at Oregon, Marcus Mariota, is having an up-and-down rookie year. Kelly’s been a failure with full control of team personnel, but as a coach he still engineered back-to-back 10-win seasons with weak quarterback play.
Simmons may be oversimplifying Kelly’s future by penciling him into the LSU job, but the likelihood of him remaining in Philadelphia seems microscopic.
