NFL Preseason: Giants Defeat Patriots in Preseason Super Bowl Rematch

In a game with far less at stake than when the two teams met last February, The New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 6-3 in the preseason finale for both teams.

Kicker Lawrence Tynes scored all the points for the Giants, who were victorious against the Patriots in their last meeting in Super Bowl XLVI.

The game was tied late into the fourth quarter when rookie defensive end Adele Ojomo sacked Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer and forced a fumble, which was recovered by defensive tackle Marcus Thomas. After converting the late field goal the Giants sealed the game with an interception by defensive back Laron Scott.

The fourth preseason game is the last chance for rookies and free agents to make an impression before teams have to cut the roster to 54 players. Ojomo is a rookie free agent and is looking to be one of the players who make the final cut.

"It would be a great honor to be a Giant," Ojomo said to the Associated Press. "They're a first-class organization. Aside from the high taxes and high rent, it would be great to be a Giant. I'll be confident Friday, I won't be nervous. They have to make tough decisions, so you have to go out and do what you need to do to make it not so tough for them."

While quarterback Eli Manning and many of the other Giants starters played through the first half, Patriots star Tom Brady did not play at all. Manning played only four series in the game and was 4 for 8 with 29 yards passing and no interceptions.

The only points in the first half came from the leg of Patriots kicker Stephen Gostowski, who converted a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Although both teams struggled offensively throughout the game, Giants running back Andre Brown had 55 yards on 14 carries.

The Giants' next game will be next Wednesday against the Dallas Cowboys, while the Patriots will face off against the Tennessee Titans on the road.
