On Friday, football coach Chip Kelly's retooling project in Philadelphia was deemed to be too new to be judged. Two days later, Chip Kelly was being judged plenty.

Hello, USC?

The Buccaneers routed the Eagles 45-17, and all the focus was on Kelly's imprint on a team that is 4-6 after all the changes he made in his first year as general manager.

Kelly faced all of the questions of a coach who is answering questions about his job security to media that smell blood in the water. The reports concluded that Kelly is a coach that has lost control of his team.

"If the Eagles were not disappointed in Kelly already, that swirl of on-field incompetence, in-stands indifference and in-house strife had to resonate in the owner's box, too," Trentonian.com reported. "Naturally, Kelly remained in defiant character afterward. Asked if he believed he'd still had control of the team, he said, 'Yes, I do.' Asked if he thought his players quit in the second half, he said, 'No, I don't.' Asked if he remained confident that his staff was emphasizing the right things, he said, 'Yes, I am.' And asked if he were certain that he had assembled enough talented players for a turn-around, he said, 'Yes, I do. I really do.'"

Two days earlier, Philly.com called the critiques of Kelly's offseason moves as premature.

"Face it: Kelly's capacity at double duty is a fun thing to discuss," Philly.com reported. "It is topical, considering the struggles the unfortified offensive line had with the Dolphins' front seven and the resurfacing of Mark Sanchez as the starter for the next two games. Ripping Kelly the GM satiates the masses.

"It also is preposterous."

Not after the humiliating defeat against Tampa Bay.

"Over the last eight weeks or so there have been countless rumors and reports of players becoming unhappy with the situation in Philadelphia but it all dates back to before the season started," Philly Sports Network reported. "We have already posted countless articles on how Chip ripped out the heart of the team with the intention of replacing it with a new heart, but it hasn't quite clicked yet. But it's worth a mention, the core of this Eagles team was destroyed in the blink of an eye and replaced with new shiny parts ... new shiny parts that need quite a lot of oil before they begin to work."

Last month, Kelly said no one from USC has contact him or his agent about its vacancy. But at that stage, there was no need. The Trojans weren't going to hire Kelly for this season, and he still had time to turn the Eagles around.

Now, the natives are restless in Philadelphia and USC, which was pummeled by Kelly's former team, Oregon, still needs a coach and provides a safe landing spot for the embattled coach.

Contact may not be made directly from USC to Kelly or his agent, but rest assured, the Trojans will have an idea of Kelly's interest and Kelly will have an idea how much interest USC has.
