The Red Sox can’t trade Hanley Ramirez even if they wanted to.

Five GMs told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that they wouldn’t trade for the soon-to-be-converted LF this offseason. The Red Sox covering half of his remaining salary wouldn’t be enough to sweeten the pot, either.

Red Sox Should Trade For Chris Sale, Not Sign Zack Greinke

Simply put: Ramirez and the three years, $66 million remaining on his contract are as toxic as they come.

A complete bust this season, the 31-year-old batted .249 with 19 homers and 53 RBI. His four errors in left field forced the Red Sox to reconsider his position for next season. With David Ortiz occupying the DH spot, Ramirez will start 2016 at first base -- likely moving to DH full time in 2017.

David Ortiz Will Keep David Price From Joining The Red Sox

Assuming, of course, the Red Sox can’t find an exit strategy beforehand. Lord knows they're trying.
