Colin Kaepernick’s 2015 season is over. His career with the 49ers shouldn’t be far behind.
The QB was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, per NFL media insider Ian Rapoport. He will have surgery on his non-throwing shoulder early next week. QB Dylan Thomas was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster in his place.

Kaepernick signed a lucrative contract in 2014, but one that benefited the 49ers. His $13.9 million salary for 2016 will only be guaranteed after April 1.
There’s no reason for him to be on the roster come March. There's no reason for San Francisco to pay that kind of money for a QB who’s regressed to the point of Blaine Gabbert looking like a better option.

Kaepernick is probably done as a 49ers, and on his last two snaps, he was booed by the fans at Levi's Stadium.

Fortunately for Kaepernick, finding another job in the NFL won’t prove to be difficult. Not with Chip Kelly hanging around to sign every QB who can’t play the position.
