With a messy child custody battle behind him, Steve Nash appears back in good health and finally at peace of mind as he prepares for his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
After winning an elongated court battle with his ex-wife over where their kids would live, Nash suddenly had a change of heart after a judge ruled they should remain in Arizona, and allowed them and his ex-wife to relocate to L.A.
To hear Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak speak, one can only conclude it's a move that seems to be agreeing with the 39-year-old veteran point guard.
"Nash has been practicing and scrimmaging at 100 percent for about a month, month and a half now," Kupchak told CBSSports. "We want to keep it that way," he added, coyly indicating management has been more than pleased with what they've seen.
Nash struggled with a litany of injuries in his first season in L.A. that limited him to just 50 games. For the first time in four seasons, he averaged less than double-digit assists and his scoring average of 12.7 points was the second lowest he's registered in 13 seasons.
Behind the scenes, the former two-time league MVP was also battling ex-wife, Alejandra, over her plan to move their three young children. According to TMZ, Nash initially told a judge he was vehemently opposed to the idea and was convinced his ex was motivated to make it because the state of California allows for greater child support payments.
Ultimately, the judge agreed with Nash, ruling his ex had failed to prove such a move was in the "best interest of the children."
