The Rockets don’t appear to be in a hurry to replace Kevin McHale whom they unceremoniously fired recently after a faltering start.

In his place, Houston has reportedly decided to go with assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff for the rest of the season, which should be a perfect opportunity for him to take advantage.

Assuming that Bickerstaff does not make the grade, who could be at the top of the list of potential head coaches that Rockets could consider?

One name being mentioned by ESPN is former Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau, who has been taking a break from the coaching scene.

Thibodeau performed admirably with the Bulls, but his rocky relationship with team management led to his eventual dismissal in favor of Fred Hoiberg earlier this year.

If it does go to the Rockets, Thibodeau could be a perfect fit and someone who could properly guide star player James Harden, who has been on a slump as of late. Both have worked together in USA Basketball and that relationship could be something to consider.

A report by USA Today stated: “Harden’s play and aloofness have frustrated teammates, and McHale took the brunt of the blame for the team’s play.”

Harden is obviously dealing with a lot of things, including being tied up to the celebrated issue involving Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian.

So if Bickerstaff fails to address the situation and end up being replaced by another head coach, Thibodeau could be an eventual wise choice. But will he make an impact on other key players as well like Dwight Howard who has since disappeared among the top center-forwards in the league?
