Maria Sharapova wasn't going to let news of ex-boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov's new romance go without some kind of response.

And Masha did it in her typical subtle fashion.

The Russian beauty was spotted in New York City with a male companion on Wednesday night, the Daily Mail reported.

There was nothing to believe that Sharapova was on a date; in fact the Mail posted photos of her without makeup.

This was as intimate as it got between the lanky tennis star and her shorter male friend:

"The pair were deep in conversation and at one point her friend even reached up to help her sweep a stray strand of hair out of her eyes," the Daily Mail reported.

Sharapova, 28, and Dimitrov, 24, ended their two-year relationship over the summer,

"Our paths split," Grigor revealed to Bulgarian media, as reported by the Daily Mail. "We experienced wonderful moments together. "I wish her much happiness and success in life and in tennis. Now I'm concentrated entirely on the game and I'm sure the results will soon be seen. ... This is the summer of the new beginning for me."

Dimitrov reportedly is dating 37-year-old Nicole Scherzinger, the former lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls. She previously was dating Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton. The Sun reported that the two began dating secretly shortly in July, shortly after Dimitrov and Sharapova broke up.

That Sharapova suddenly was photographed with another man after the Dimitrov romance rumors broke may be no coincidence.

In 2014, Serena Williams and best friend Caroline Wozniacki, who met in the U.S. Open finals, posted several photos of themselves celebrating Williams' Grand Slam victory. Shortly after those photos emerged, Sharapova tweeted a photo of herself sitting on some steps with the caption, "Weekend solitude #inspired."

Sharapova may not be dating, but her evening out shows that she isn't at home, still heartbroken over Dimitrov.
