There is a new theory going on in college football and it's called the Bama effect.

The Bama effect is when a team looks worse after Alabama defeats them according to Sports Nation's Bill Connelly.

In his story, Connelly points out several SEC teams who have seem to have gotten worse after losing to Alabama.

"I'm more interested in Alabama's opponents, however. The Bama Effect appears to be real. For all the attention Tide fans give to scheduling -- and how it kind of seems like every opponent gets a week off before playing Bama -- opponents should be more focused on getting a break afterward."

Connelly makes a good point by pointing out how teams have fared after they have played Alabama. Texas A & M came into the Alabama game this year undefeated and some considered them one of the teams to beat in the SEC West.

After the Bama loss, they have struggled ever since winning one game and losing to last place Auburn.

Same with Georgia; they came into the game undefeated only to get their eyes beaten out by the Tide and they lost their best player later in year.

Maybe it's not the Bama effect that is causing these teams to lose, maybe it's simply that they aren't very good and are overrated.

Not to take away from anything Alabama has done, but those who follow the SEC missed badly on their picks this year. They picked Georgia to win the SEC East and Auburn to win the West; both teams have fallen flat on their faces. So, maybe it's not much the Bama effect as it maybe just sports writers and reporters doing a poor job on researching their football picks.
