If you were to trust Michael Vick's word -- which you never should -- Landry Jones will start for the Steelers on Sunday.

When asked if he'll be Jones' backup, Vick responded, per Pennlive: "Yeah, absolutely, definitely."

Steelers Need A Real Backup After Roethlisberger Injury

And yet -- despite Vick's adamant proclamation -- Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers have done everything to counter it. On Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin indicated the team will move forward with Jones as the starting QB, but the door was "slightly ajar" for Roethlisberger.

That same door has upgraded and is officially wide open.

Except there's no need to play.

As much as Roethlisberger is an upgrade over Jones under center, these are still the Browns visiting Heinz Field on Sunday. The same Browns that refuse to identify a starting QB of their own.

Except their issue is one of ineptitude, not injury.

There's something to be said about a QB understanding his importance on a 5-4 team battling for the playoffs. But if you can't beat a 2-7 Cleveland team at home -- regardless of who's under center -- you don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

In the short term and long term, the Steelers are better off trusting a healthy Jones than a hobbled Roethlisberger.
