The best laid plans of Triple H continue to go awry.

There have been rumors throughout the last few months that "The Game" would either take on Seth Rollins or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania 32. Now, neither of those two will be around to face the WWE's COO.

John Cena Heel Turn A Must If He Feuds With Undertaker

First, "The Architect" suffered a debilitating knee injury, causing him to forfeit the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and to miss the "Show of Shows." The Rock is now also out the window because he has an insurance issue due to a movie he is filming in 2016 that prohibits him from wrestling prior to the start of production, according to WrestleZone.com.

Triple H could just have an on-screen, non-wrestling role at the show now that his two scheduled opponents won't be around. The WWE may also come up with a new angle for "The Game" leading to AT&T Stadium in Texas on April 3, 2016.

10 Booking Decisions To Make Survivor Series Classic

Here are five potential opponents for Triple H if he returns to the ring:

1) Roman Reigns

It appears as though the leader of the Roman Empire is headed toward his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series. Unless the WWE is using him as a red herring, he is likely to win the tournament, which concludes on Nov. 22. It's possible, however, that "The Game," spurned by Reigns not joining The Authority, will go old school by pulling off a screwjob at Survivor Series, leading to a feud between the two at WrestleMania.

2) Sting

"The Vigilante" may have injured himself last time out, but if the WWE believes he can give it another go, perhaps an epic rematch against Triple H is worth exploring. The WWE likely had the leader of The Authority go over Sting as the final salvo in the Monday Night Wars, but Sting has yet to win a big pay-per-view match and could use the rub in another battle between the two stars.

3) "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

There have been myriad rumors that the "Texas Rattlesnake" will return in his home state of Texas for one more match. Sure, the WWE Hall of Famer has vehemently denied such a notion, but he could be throwing fans off the trail. If Austin needs an opponent and John Cena and Brock Lesnar aren't available, renewing his rivalry with Triple H could bring excitement and electricity to AT&T Stadium.

4) Bray Wyatt

The "Eater of Worlds" is currently trying to take down another legend in the WWE ranks, The Undertaker, but maybe he should focus on another once the spring rolls around. Wyatt has already tried to take out the face of the franchise in Cena and the WWE's golden boy Reigns. He's now trying to end The Undertaker's legendary career. If all else fails, Wyatt could go to the very top of the corporate ladder and try to dismantle Triple H at the biggest event of the year. If the "New Face of Fear" knocked off "The Game," it would be a much-needed huge victory for him.

5) Bill Goldberg

We know, it's not 2003. Been there, done that. Still, this match is worth exploring due to the real life animosity the former WCW and WWE Heavyweight Champion feels toward Triple H and the WWE. Though he's unlikely to return due to bad mouthing the organization any chance that he gets, the WWE thrives best when it blurs the lines of kayfabe and reality. Having Goldberg battle Triple H with real life heat behind the feud could make for one memorable rivalry.
