Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya stand among the greatest boxers known today but outside the ring, the two are not shy to speak on what they think of the other.

De La Hoya has been time and again criticized by Mayweather, the most recent of which is the decision to feature UFC Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey on Ring Magazine which is under De La Hoya’s Golden Boy banner.

While Rousey and Mayweather have been known to take potshots at each other, the undefeated American boxer took a swipe at the magazine and of course De La Hoya.

"You gotta realize this, we all know Oscar De La Hoya owns the Ring Magazine. That shows you; he has no fighters but Canelo. Basically, it's like he's trying to steal her from Dana White,” says Mayweather which was part of the comments he made regarding the matter on fighthype.com

And now, De La Hoya strikes back through an open letter which was published on the December issue of Playboy Magazine.

In the letter, De La Hoya hurled various invectives at the undefeated fighter but in all stressed how boxing would be a better sport now that he has retired.

“So I'm writing to you today to wish you a fond farewell. Truth be told, I'm not unhappy to see you retire. Neither are a lot of boxing fans. Scratch that. MOST boxing fans. Why? Because the fight game will be a better one without you in it" says De La Hoya in the letter.

The lengthy letter took on various issues tied up with Mayweather, including his decision to fight Manny Pacquiao five years too late and of course that celebrated decision to face Andre Berto for his supposed last fight.

It may only be a matter of time before Floyd Mayweather strikes back with a verbal tirade of his own.
