Lewis Hamilton should have been in Sao Paulo, Brazil by now but Mercedes initially reasoned out that the F1 racing champ had to delay his arrival due to an illness.

However, it was Hamilton himself who revealed the real score on the reason behind it all and it had to do something with an incident earlier this week.

Apparently the Formula 1 champion crashed his $3.2 million Pagani Zonda supercar early Tuesday morning, hitting three parked cars. Hamilton was unhurt during the collision and the police determined that the 30-year-old race car driver was not drinking.

According to a spokesman for Monaco’s Palais de Justice, Hamilton’s foot slipped from the brake and clutch pedals and such resulted in the multi-car collision.

Hamilton himself brought to social media (Instagram) on what had really happened.

“It was a result of heavy partying and not much rest for a week and a half,” Hamilton said. “I am a bit run down. I have been non-stop and trying to fit training in at the same time and not getting a lot of sleep.”

As things stand now, it remains to be seen how Hamilton will fare at the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend. Standing in his way is teammate Nico Rosberg, who secured a flawless win at the Mexico Grand Prix.

He may not be the ideal driver that Mercedes has in mind but as long as he delivers and succeeds on the track, Mercedes big boss Toto Wolff is not about to complain. But for his sake, he may want to watch how he pushes himself to the limit – something that may eventually cost him.

His last triumph was the 2015 world title at the U.S. Grand Prix.
