The Indiana Pacers are close to inking All-Star forward Paul George to a five year extension worth more than $90 million, according to ESPN.

The maximum deal for the four-year forward is expected to be finalized later this week, the website added. George was voted the NBA's Most Improved Player last season, averaging 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game.

During the postseason, he upped his production to 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Pacers forced the eventual NBA champion Miami Heat to a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Lakers, Knicks and Mavericks could be among the teams interested in George if he became a free agent after the season, George went on the record earlier this summer in stating that his preference was to remain in Indiana and sign a long-term deal with the Pacers.

"There will be a deal signed and sealed on the table before the season," he told the Indianapolis Star. "We're on the same page."

Over his first three seasons in Indiana, George, 23, has improved his numbers each season, culminating in last season's All-Star campaign where he also played a team-high 39 minutes per game and added two steals and a block a night.
