Russell Westbrook has spent spent some time in the shadow of Thunder teammate Kevin Durant in the past, but now the point guard is cementing himself as one of the best players not only on his team, but in the NBA.

Westbrook has been compiling stats at a historical pace early in the season. In six of his eight games, Westbrook has recorded at least 10 assists. The only other player to to that in even three games this season is John Wall of the Wizards.

Warriors Off To Best Offensive Start In NBA History

In addition to his early season numbers, Westbrook has also established himself as one of the best Triple Double threats in NBA history after his 22-point, 11-rebound and 11-assist game in the Thunder's win Tuesday night over the Wizards.

According to The Elias Sports Bureau, since the NBA began recording player minutes in 1951-52, no player has recorded more triple-doubles than Russell Westbrook (four) while playing less than 30 minutes in a game.

Kobe Has Harsh Words For Himself

With his 22 points and 11 assists, Westbrook has now had at least 20 points and 10 assists in five straight games. He is the only player to accomplish this since Chris Paul in the 2008-2009 season.

Last season, Westbrook, a four-time All-Star, led the NBA in triple-doubles with 11. The next closest player was James Harden, who had just four.
