It was Jim Harbaugh that helped turn Colin Kaepernick into an NFL star quarterback. So it makes sense that Harbaugh is condemning those in charge during Kaepernick's demise.

Harbaugh, the former 49ers coach who has done a masterful job in his first year at Michigan, took a thinly veiled shot at the new San Francisco coaching staff during a recent news conference, according to Yahoo Sports.

Possible Landing Spots For Colin Kaepernick

"We train our quarterbacks to throw to people that aren't covered, even if it's a running play," he said. "I was watching an NFL game where they didn't cover a receiver and the quarterback handed it off, and got maligned by scribes and pundits and so-called experts for not throwing it to him."

Yahoo Sports reported that Harbaugh was referring to Kaepernick's last start, in which he handed the ball off just outside the 49ers' own goal line, not bothering to look up to see both of his outside wide receivers uncovered.

Benched Colin Kaepernick Likely Played His Last Game For 49ers

Kaepernick was benched last week in favor of backup Blaine Gabbert, who led San Francisco to a 17-16 upset of the Falcons, earning him another start next week against NFC West rival Seattle. The 49ers have a bye this week.

The divorce between Harbaugh and the Niners was long, somewhat ugly and somewhat puzzling, considering the success the franchise enjoyed with him as coach -- three consecutive NFC Championship Game appearances, including a Super Bowl XLVII appearance, from 2011-13.

Harbaugh's Wolverines are 7-2 and ranked No. 15. He often is asked to compare his Michigan job to his former NFL gig.

"When it gets into questions about comparing one thing to another or one person to another, I avoid it like the plague," Harbaugh said, according to MLive.com. "Somebody always gets diminished. They're both good. They're both great."

But when asked to elaborate about the difference of coaching professionals vs. college student-athletes, Harbaugh opened up.

"What's been tremendous here is that you've got it all," Harbaugh said about his Michigan job. "I love football. I love the University of Michigan and I love coaching. I get to do all three of those (here).

"As my dad would say: 'Who's got it better than us? ... Nobody.'"

The 49ers don't have much of a counter-argument.
