Sad news to report out of Major League Baseball, as former Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson died at the age of 29 after a sudden illness.

Hanson reportedly was not feeling well Sunday night and was rushed to the hospital. He ended up in a coma and later died.

Former Braves teammates are devastated by the loss, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"I'm at a loss for words," former Braves teammate Freddie Freeman said. "He was a great teammate and an even better friend. You just always wanted to be around him because he had such a positive personality. He had a smile that would light up the room. Can't fully grasp that he's gone. I'm going to miss him a lot."

Added former Braves pitcher Kris Melden: "Anyone who knows me knows how much Thomas J. Hanson Jr. meant to me. I also feel bad for anyone who didn't get a chance to know the man.

"He was the kindest, most loyal person I've ever met. He loved his family more than anything in the world, and his friends felt like family when around them. He was not 'like' a brother to me, he was my brother and I'm going to miss him so much."

Hanson was a rookie sensation for the Braves just a few years ago, but nagging injuries forced the team to trade him to the Angels, where he continued to struggle as a starter.

But as you can tell, the former Brave will be sorely missed by fans and teammates alike.
