Yankees general manager Brian Cashman made it abundantly clear: pitcher Luis Severino, first baseman Greg Bird and outfielder Aaron Judge are off limits.

Everyone else is free reign.

"I'm open to anything," Cashman said, per Fox Sports. "I'm always open to anything. I'm not afraid. If we can find matches to make us better as we go forward, we're all ears."

On that list of players that could be moved -- and rightfully so -- is Brett Gardner.

The left fielder does have three years, $36 million left on his contract -- the club has a $12.5-million option for 2019 -- but father time is slowly creeping. The 32-year-old has shown over the last few years that he’s prone to second-half drop-offs.

Despite being a clubhouse leader, not all would be sad, nor surprised to see him go.

Make no mistake, Cashman is in the market to improve the Yankees this offseason. Especially after the Mets’ World Series run.

Offloading Gardner to potentially land Heyward is a proper step in the right direction.
