The death of Ronald Lee Homer Jr., a fan that fell 85 feet over a railing at Turner Field following an Aug. 12 rain delay, has been officially ruled as a suicide by the medical examiner, according to ESPN.
Investigators of the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office said they spoke with Homer's family last week about the ruling before reporting it as a suicide to the media.
According to police, Homer died after falling 85 feet from a walkway on the fourth level of Turner Field following a rain delay in a game that pitted the Atlanta Braves against the Philadelphia Phillies. Police told ESPN that Homer, a native of Conyers, Ga., landed in the player's parking lot following the plunge to his death. While it was ruled a suicide, ESPN reports that the police have said they can't expose any further details involving Homer's death and that there was no surveillance footage of the incident.
Homer, 30, died of blunt force trauma in the fall, and was a lifelong Braves fan. Police originally ruled the death as an accident, according to CBS Sports, and believed that the weather conditions possibly contributed to him slipping and falling to his death incidentally.
Homer died from his injuries at Atlanta Medical Center.
CBS Sports reports that Homer had a phone conversation with his mother and told her that he loved her before he apparently jumped to his death.
There have been no details released as to what motivated Homer to commit suicide or why he chose to do it at Turner Field.
