The controversy stems from the fact that the Nevada Athletic Commission opted to recognize the failed drug test results from a non-affiliated World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It was Diaz’ third infraction of testing positive for marijuana.

Rather than using a legal approach, the camp of Diaz opted to go with settlement talks. And based on latest reports, it looks like the move has paid off.

Such was revealed by Ariel Herwani on UFC Tonight, baring that Diaz’ suspension has been reduced and that 32-year-old fighter could return as early in the summer. Diaz drew tremendous support from co-UFC workers and celebrities alike, not to mention a White House petition that amassed over 100,000 signatures.

This should be a positive development for the fans of Nick Diaz, not to mention the UFC as well seeing the following and popularity that American mixed-martial artist has. But of course, it would be best to hear the UFC announce it officially first before moving forward. And assuming he does, the next question in mind is who Diaz would face.

Diaz’ last opponent was Anderson Silva to whom he lost on Jan. 31 via unanimous decision. But the results were overturned when Silva also tested positive for drostanolone and androsterone. Silva was likewise suspended but only for one year. The comebacking Brazilian fighter can return to UFC action in Feb.
