This hasn’t been the best week for Colin Kaepernick.

The 49ers QB was benched by Jim Tomsula ahead of Sunday’s visit from the Falcons. Kaepernick -- who’s struggled to a 47.6 QBR in eight starts -- is in need of a mental break according to his head coach.

Colin Kaepernick Benching Opens Door For Tim Tebow

"This was just a decision that I just felt like I wanted Colin to step back and breathe," Tomsula said, per ESPN. "Look at things through a different lens. Keep preparing, keep doing his thing, keep working, but just step back and take a look at things, OK.

"That's what I want."

Colin Kaepernick's Lack Of Urgency Led To His Downfall

It’s clear what Vernon Davis wanted.

The TE was traded to the Broncos in exchange for a pair of sixth-round picks in 2016 and 2017. Davis spent 10 years with the 49ers. It took him one day to burn every bridge remaining in San Francisco.

Admittedly, Davis could be referring to a variety of things -- organizational structure, a culture of praise, an experienced coach -- but there’s one thing a TE certainly needs to be productive: a QB.

He’s ecstatic to finally have one in Denver.

Unfortunately or Kaepernick, Davis’ dreams continue to be his nightmare.
