The first College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday. Much to the dismay of SEC haters -- presidents of the Danny Kanell fan club -- Alabama opened at No. 4. LSU was slightly ahead at No. 2.

Baylor -- despite being undefeated and averaging 61.1 points per game -- were snubbed at No. 6.
Naturally, the committee's decision led to a public outcry, many questioning the criteria to determine the country’s top four schools.

If you're going to snub TCU and Baylor for their weak schedules, then Ohio State should have gotten the same treatment.

Not sure how anyone who has watched TCU and Baylor closely can not think they’re two of the five-best teams in the country.

All this, however, is for naught.
As seductive as a playoff ranking is, it holds no weight in the first week of November. Baylor’s strength of schedule is the main reason behind the program’s exclusion, yet the Bears still have three top 15 teams remaining on the schedule.
Alabama and LSU will virtually cancel each other out after going head to head on Saturday, opening the door for another non-SEC school to join the fray.
Last year 2, 5, 6 and 16 in the first CFPSC ranking got in. If history repeats, would be LSU vs FSU and ND vs Baylor.

As 2014 showed -- when as many as three SEC teams were in the top four -- everything will work itself out. Tuesday was nothing more than a dog and pony show ESPN can hold over your head until Saturday.
