Jermell Charlo is not a familiar name right now in the world of boxing, but he does have an impressive record to show.

Charlo is currently 27-0 and the 25-year-old light junior middleweight boxer is the No. 1 ranked contender for Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s WBC title and he wants it bad.

"Next for me is the WBC [title]," Charlo told ESPN. "Right now, Floyd Mayweather holds the title at the WBC. I'm ranked No. 1 in it. If Floyd don't want to get rid of the titles, I'm here."

Of course, Charlo is unlikely to get the attention of Mayweather and will likely be shunned away like other not-so-popular names in the division.

And even if Mayweather responds, it will likely be the same thing -- him saying that he is retired and it will stay that way. So does this mean that the titles will eventually be passed on?

Seeing the rising 25-year-old’s hunger for recognition, such is the most likely scenario. But of course, the WBC is unlikely to hand him the title on a silver platter. For sure, he will have to work for it and it is unlikely that his opponent will be the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Charlo is coming off an impressive win over Joachim Alcine whom he defeated via TKO in the sixth round when the two clashed at the Premiere Boxing Champions at the NRG Arena. It was his 12th KO victory.
