While your friends and family are out there looking to cross the next thing of their bucket list, there is actual competition in Sunday’s New York City Marathon.
On the men’s side, Wilson Kipsang from Kenya is looking to become the sixth repeat champion in race history. In his only race ahead of Sunday’s marathon, Kipsang ran a 46:42 at the Dam tot Damloop 10-mile race in the Netherlands.
It was only good enough for seventh place, but not enough to deter his spirits.

“I am well prepared,” said Kipsang, per Nation.co.ke. “Last year, I didn’t know much about the race, but this year I’ve prepared with the course in mind.”
Over on the women’s side, Mary Keitany will look to defend her crown. The Kenyan powerhouse took second at the London Marathon earlier this year -- running 2:23:40 -- and previously set records in the half-marathon and 10-mile distances, per Fortune.
Being the mother of two children since 2008 hasn’t slowed her down.
Sally Kipyego, however, might.
