It'll be an exciting Halloween in horseracing when the year culminates with the Breeders' Cup Saturday in Kentucky.
American Pharoah will go for the Grand Slam after winning the Kentucky Derby on May 2, the Preakness Stakes on May 16 and the Belmont Stakes on June 6. Since notching the Triple Crown, jockey Victor Espinoza and his horse also have won the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Aug. 2
Pharoah enters his final race as a heavy favorite, and the horse will look to go out in style and to live up to its lofty expectations.
Pharoah will also be looking for redemption as the thoroughbred fell at the Travers Stakes in Saratoga last time out, placing second on Aug. 29.
Keen Ice won the race that day and will also look to once again pull it out against Pharoah. Keen Ice also took part in two legs of the Triple Crown, placing seventh at the Kentucky Derby and finishing third at the Belmont Stakes. Before its Traverse win, Keen Ice's only other victory came when it was two-years-old at Churchill Downs as a maiden.
Pharoah will look to go out with a bang Saturday afternoon in Kentucky.
