J.T. Barrett was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired (OVI) early Saturday morning, per Eleven Warriors.

One QB Preventing The Heisman Trophy From Landing At Ohio State

The Buckeyes QB was taken into custody near High and Tompkins, just north of Campus after police noticed he attempted to avoid an OVI checkpoint. To be fair, while impaired, there's a decent chance he confused it for a free safety.

The team issued a full statement just hours later.

Sophomores Ready To Challenge For The NFL Immediately

"Ohio State University student-athlete J.T. Barrett was cited by Columbus police Saturday morning at a campus area check point with a misdemeanor offense of OVI," the statement read. "Barrett has been suspended by head coach Urban Meyer from playing in Ohio State's game against Minnesota on Nov. 7."

That's it, one game? Clearly, the Ohio State football program hasn't matured since the Terrelle Pryor scandal from 2010. And that was just a QB trying to eat, not one dangering the lives of others while driving impaired.

Much of that has to do with Barrett's performance and Ohio State's date with Michigan State in two weeks.

As a starter ahead of Cardale Jones, Barrett completed 14-of-18 passes for 223 yards and three scores in a 49-7 win over the Rutgers last Saturday.

Can't keep a talent like that off the field for too long, even if he deserves a stern punishment for a societal mishap.

Urban Meyer and Ohio State would rather lean on the "misdemeanor" portion of the argument -- the one that doesn't subject Barrett to a mandatory two-week suspension -- than send a worthy message instead.
