Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Advice: 5 Big Names You Can Safely Drop

With bye weeks and injuries ravaging fantasy lineups, and the NFL season almost halfway done, tough cuts have to be made by some owners. Here are five big names that you can feel safe saying goodbye to.

C.J. Anderson, RB, Broncos

It’s safe to say that Anderson, who was drafted in the first round in most leagues, has been fantasy football’s least valuable player. In six games Anderson has yet to rush for 50 yards or score a touchdown. No, I’m not mistaken. Anderson is healthy as far as we know, and his struggles are a combination of the fantasy community overrating him, and Denver’s abysmal offensive line play.

Some might think he’s worth rostering because he’s technically sharing RB1 duties with Ronnie Hillman, but cutting him is okay. Hillman has played better, and is seeing more work, and even if injury befell him, Anderson getting a bigger workload would simply beget more frustration. Right now, this guy stinks, just like the Broncos offense in general.

Alfred Morris, RB, Redskins

Morris is just not the model of consistency he once was. The Redskins’ coaches clearly prefer Matt Jones’ explosiveness to Morris’ bruising style, and their tendency to lean on Jones and Chris Thompson lately signal a desire to involve the running backs in the passing game to help Kirk Cousins.

Morris is useless in the passing game, and his carry totals have borne that out. He hasn’t topped 21 yards in any of his last three games, and received single-digit carries in two of them. He doesn’t have an edge over Jones at the goal line either, so he’s pretty much got no hope of producing unless Jones get hurt. Even when Jones missed a game vs. the Jets, Morris was out-touched by Thompson.

Andre Johnson, WR, Colts

I know it’s hard. You see Johnson, who for years has made lemonade with lemon after lemon at QB in Houston, with Andrew Luck under center and think it’s a match made in heaven. You see two touchdowns in primetime vs. the Texans a few weeks ago. But then you see him play, and Father Time has finally beaten him.

Johnson looks like a tight end now, and a slow one at that. He’s behind T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief in the passing game, and ranks right alongside TE Coby Fleener as a priority for Luck. Then there’s Indianpolis’ decent running game with Frank Gore, and the addition of Ahmad Bradshaw to steal targets, to consider. It’s all ugly, and you don’t need Johnson. Don’t miss out on young guys coming up like Stefon Diggs.

Roddy White, WR, Falcons

He’s in the boat with Johnson. White was consistent as rain for many years, but these days he’s just not getting looks. Even with Leonard Hankerson out last week, White drew just four targets. He has been targeted four times in each of the last four weeks, and he got one target in the previous two weeks combined. If Hankerson is out, it means Julio Jones gets those looks now, and not Roddy. Save yourself the despair, and just cut him.

Nelson Agholor, WR, Eagles

Dear Lord, he’s been bad. Agholor was a very popular sleeper pick, and yet has managed eight catches for 105 yards. For the entire season. That is a good half for elite receivers. The Eagles offense has been much less potent than anyone expected, and Agholor is dealing with a high ankle sprain to boot. Even when he’s healthy, he’s indistinguishable as a fantasy threat from Jordan Matthews, Riley Cooper, Josh Huff or even TE Zach Ertz.

None of these players do anything, and Sam Bradford doesn’t do anything either. Chip Kelly’s offense is the hottest of messes right now, so jump ship from any Eagle not named Ryan Mathews right now.
