Steph Curry is the reigning MVP as well as a member of the defending champion Warriors. Curry left the past in the past, however, and started working on his next big season as soon as the new year tipped off.

Curry and the Warriors started their season off strong. Following their championship banner raising ceremony, the team flew out of the gate with 39 first-quarter points. They would keep the scoring up all night as they beat the Pelicans, 111-95.

While the quick start for the team is impressive, it was their MVP that really had people talking. Curry's 40 points were the third most for a reigning MVP on opening night. Only Wilt Chamberlain with 42 and Kareem Abdul-Jabarr with 41 were more than what fans saw during Curry's impressive night.

What was more surprising about Curry's night is that it had never been matched by the likes of LeBron James and Michael Jordan. The two players have a combined nine MVP awards, but neither of them managed to open up a season better than Curry.

Curry also managed to pull down six rebounds with seven assists. Even more impressive is that despite having a role in half his team's points, he only turned the ball over twice. Curry is right on his way to another MVP campaign.
