Donald Trump received an endorsement from an unlikely but big-time athlete, who said Trump doesn't really have anything against immigrants south of the border.

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said the business mogul has his vote in the next presidential election in an interview with Huffington Post.

"He should be president of the United States . ... Yeah, hell yeah, big time," Tyson responded when asked whether Trump has his vote. "Why wouldn't anybody like that --- a guy that came from where he came from and doing what he's doing and now this is where he's at now?"

Even when Tyson was asked about Trump's comments about Mexican immigrants, in which he called them drug dealers, criminals and rapists, the former boxing champion came to his defense.

"The man who runs the country is just a man; he needs time to grow, too," Tyson said. "He hurt our feelings; he hurt our soft spot.

"... Do you think Donald Trump thinks of Latinos that way? I don't think he thinks of Latinos that way; I really don't believe that. If you believe that he believes that, then you have to believe that most of the country believes that because they're voting for him."

Tyson added that Trump's popularity is a message to the established political world that the voting public is "tired of what you've been doing.

"Let's try something new. Let's run America like a business, where no colors matter. Whoever can do the job, gets the job," Tyson said.

He accused other politicians of treating Americans as if they're "stupid" because they keep saying that Trump's popularity is fleeting and eventually will run out of steam.

"They're telling the people right in their face --- all the Democrats, all the Republicans, all the Independents, 'You don't know what you're doing. You're going to vote for me next week. You ain't thinking about Donald Trump; you're just riding on his bandwagon of success.'"
