The Browns have every reason to be freaked out about the incident last week between Johnny Manziel and his girlfriend.

The organization is hoping the situation rectifies itself and it may get involved in that process, according to CBS Sports.

Argument With Drunk Girlfriend May Cost Johnny Manziel His Job

In a report about Manziel's inability to accept a backup role, CBS Sports reported that the Browns have expressed an interest in breaking up Manziel and girlfriend Colleen Crowley, a reported TCU student who has been living with him the last few months.

"Manziel was not arrested and faces no charges from a heated argument with his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, although he did admit to police he was drinking earlier that day," CBS Sports reported. "Police were looking into the nature of marks on Crowley's arms and witness accounts of a domestic incident (the couple was allowed to leave the scene together). While the NFL would not indicate if was reviewing the incident last weekend, once a dash-cam video was released during which Crowley claimed she was hit 'a couple of times,' the league then stated it was reviewing the matter.

"There have been concerns about the sometimes turbulent nature of that relationship within the Browns' hierarchy, sources said, and some have been hoping there would be separation for quite some time. Crowley is a college student who has been living with Manziel this season. Manziel was not disciplined by the team and has remained McCown's primary backup, dressing for games as he normally would."

Johnny Manziel's Agent Trolls Merril Hoge On Social Media

One team source said Manziel's poor judgment -- he admitted to drinking on Monday after completing a rehab stint during the offseason -- is due to the fact that he remains the team's backup.

"This kid is such a competitor and he got a taste for it and made some plays and started a game and I think he thought he got the job back," said one team source. "So you had a bad feeling something might be coming and he might slip. I'm not sure he's wired to be a backup and he had really won people over, but I can't say it's a surprise that something like this happened after he ended up back on the bench."

Browns general manager Ray Farmer said the team cannot discipline Manziel; that would have to come from the league, according to ESPN.

"The Browns' only option, under the NFL's rules, was to make Manziel inactive for this past Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams, according to Farmer," ESPN reported. "Only the NFL has the authority to discipline Manziel, because the league investigates potential personal conduct policy violations.

"Any time there's questions marks, we follow up," Farmer added, per the ESPN report. "Like I said in my statement, I had my conversation with Johnny. I'm not going to make that public. That conversation is private, and should be. He knows where I am, and I know where he is."
