Blues forward Jaden Schwartz will be out for at least 12 weeks after surgery to repair a fractured left ankle suffered on Friday in practice.

One of the Blues top forwards, Schwartz was helped off the ice and transported to a hospital, where he underwent the surgery, ESPN reported.

Schwartz was placed on injured reserve Saturday and the Blues have recalled forward Ty Rattie from Chicago of the AHL. The 23-year-old Schwartz has four assists in seven games this season. He scored 53 goals over the previous two seasons.

In the 2014-15 season, Schwartz finished second among Blues' goalscorers with 28 tallies, and third in terms of overall scoring with 63 points.Schwartz also had 25 goal and 31 assists during the previous year.

Schwartz was the first of the Blues two first-round selections in 2010, being picked 14th-overall along with Vladimir Tarasenko, who was selected 16th.

When compared to other players who had equal or less minutes, Schwartz ranked as the NHL's fifth-best goalscorer, topped only by Rick Nash, Tarasenko, Wayne Simmonds and Gustav Nyquist.

Furthermore, when it came to total points in the past two years, Schwartz topped those four talented skaters.

Though somewhat outshone by Tarasenko and T.J. Oshie, the latter of which is now with the Capitals, Schwartz seems to be in a better position at stardom this current season, with the Blues' new guard becoming the team's true core.

The Blues are also missing the services of center Paul Stastny for four to six weeks with a broken foot and forward Patrik Berglund who is out until January after undergoing shoulder surgery.
