Sabres left wing Evander Kane suffered a left knee injury after a "knee-on-knee" play in Saturday night's 4-3 loss to the Devils.

A check from David Schlemko caused Kane to collapse after his knee got pinned to the boards, the NHL website reported.

Coach Dan Bylsma did not have an update on Kane's status and said he does not want to speculate on what transpired.

Last Wednesday, Kane tied their game against the Maple Leafs via a wrister past goalie Jonathan Bernier with 4:29 left that eventually allowed them to win via a shootout.

It was Kane's first goal for the Sabres.

A couple of years ago, Kane posted 250 shots, 173 hits and 66 PIM in 63 games for the Jets. Last February, the Sabres traded for Kane, who didn't debut with the team until this season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

However, Kane's upside is meaningless unless he stays healthy. He missed all but 37 games for the Jets in 2014-15 due to the surgery. Health issues also caused him to play in just 100 out of 162 games over the past two years.

In trading Kane, blueliner Zach Bogosian and goaltending prospect Jason Kasdorf, the Jets received defenseman Tyler Myers, wingers Drew Stafford, Joel Armia and Brendan Lemieux, and a first round pick in the 2015 NHL draft.

The Jets used that selection to acquire Jack Roslovic.

So far the Jets are off to a great start with a 4-2-1 slate, making some observers comment that the trade for Kane was a bust for the Sabres.
