The Warriors will have to open their NBA title defense without the man who guided them last year for now with Steve Kerr will not fully recovered from his back surgery done in July.

Kerr is still reportedly bothered by varying symptoms after the procedure, which includes severe headaches. With Kerr still out, Luke Walton will carry on coaching duties in an interim basis until Kerr is fit to return and call the shots. There is no definite timetable for Kerr’s return.

Walton has been doing a decent job for the Warriors throughout the preseason though the real battle begins on Oct. 28 when Golden State hosts New Orleans.

The matchup should be an interesting one considering the man calling the shots for the Pelicans used to be on the Warriors bench.

Alvin Gentry was named the next head coach of New Orleans after management parted ways with former head coach Monty Williams.

Walton will likely handle the team as well after that. The Warriors have a rough schedule ahead, as they face the Rockets on Oct. 30, visit New Orleans on Oct. 31 and then host the Grizzlies on Nov. 2.

With their first list of assignments, it will be interesting to see if the Warriors will continue their small-ball play or start using big men in the middle.

Their lined-up opponents do have some of the best big men in the NBA today. That includes the rising Anthony Davis for the Pelicans, Dwight Howard for the Rockets and Marc Gasol of the Grizzlies.

The Warriors are in for a rough season with a highly competitive Western Conference with most of the favored teams lined-up in the early goings of the 2015-16 NBA season.
