Samuel Dalembert was looking forward to getting a second chance with the Mavericks, but apparently he was not able to do enough to snag a roster spot for the coming season.

Dalembert was one of four players who were waived by Dallas. The other players who got the boot include Brandon Ashley, Tu Holloway and Jamil Wilson.

Dalembert was among the big men the Mavericks wanted to see to fill in the center position, something that many of course know became controversial when DeAndre Jordan went back on his word to rejoin the Clippers.

He was a low-risk player who could have made the grade despite past issues that included oversleeping with the Mavericks and also when he transferred to the Knicks.

Head coach Rick Carlisle reasoned that Dalembert wasn’t healthy and sharp enough to make the roster. Also, the Mavs seemed to have been more impressed with a younger Salah Mejri who Carlisle says has earned a spot on the Mavs roster.

With Dalembert out, the roster count for the Mavericks is now at 16. There will be one more player cut and the most likely one to be given the boot is Maurice Ndour, who has a stress fracture in his leg.

Mejri will be the Mavs fourth center in the roster with the trio of Zaza Pachulia, Dwight Powell and JaVale McGee likely jockeying on who will earn the starting center privilege.
