Former Alabama running back Altee Tenpenny was killed in a one-car accident in Mississippi this week, and the Crimson Tide are honoring its former teammate against Tennessee by wearing a special helmet decal with Tenpenny's No. 28.

"Altee was part of our family here, and is special to a lot of people, and good friends with a lot of our players," Alabama coach Nick Saban said on Wednesday.

He spoke with Tenpenny's mother earlier that day to "express the entire university and our organization's condolences to their family."

Tenpenny started his career at Alabama after being one of the nation's top-ranked running backs out of North Little Rock High School. He wore No. 28 as a member of the Crimson Tide team in 2013 and 2014.

In two seasons at Alabama, Tenpenny rushed for 218 yards and a touchdown on 48 attempts. As a true freshman in 2013, he showed some explosiveness, rushing for 82 yards on 22 carries and scored his first touchdown in a Crimson uniform against Kentucky. Last season, Tenpenny averaged more than five yards per touch in a reserve role on the offensive side of the football.

Tenpenny decided to leave the Alabama program in January of this year and transferred to UNLV. He was, however, dismissed from UNLV in August for breaking team rules and joined with Nicholls State in the same month. Tenpenny had been dismissed from Nicholls State team on Monday after he was arrested in Louisiana for possession of a firearm and discharging a weapon.
