The Baylor Bears beat Iowa State 45-27 to move to 7-0, but it came at a cost. Starting quarterback Seth Russell suffered what was first diagnosed as a strained neck. The school later announced that X-rays and a CT scan revealed a fracture in one of the bones in his neck. Russell is scheduled to see a specialist next week, and his return time table is unknown at this time.

Baylor coach Art Briles told ESPN that Russell would "probably be out awhile" but won't "find out for certain until Monday."

"He's a tough guy. It's hard to see tough guys hurt," Briles said.

The injury, which occurred on a four-yard run on third down with 5:36 left in the fourth quarter, didn't initially look serious. Following the game, Briles didn't know the extent of the injury, but said it was severe enough that the Bears would not have put Russell back in the game had the contest been closer.

"We're going to evaluate Seth in the next few days," Briles said. "If he's cleared, he'll play, because he's a tough hombre now."

Russell has had a fantastic season for the Bears. While he only threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns against Iowa State, he's still registered 2,104 yards and 29 touchdowns on the season, with only six interceptions.

Thee good thing is Baylor has a bye next week. The Bears don't play until a trip to Kansas State for a Thursday night game on Nov. 5.

Should Russell miss time, freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham will be his replacement.
