NFL News: Planning to Fund Study On Brain Damage Research [VIDEO]

The National Football League decided to push through with funding the research on the difference between a concussion and brain damage. It has been noted over the years on how retired and former NFL players have been suing the NFL due to complaints relating to brain damage and degeneration. They have spent over $750 million dollars in law settlements.

They were just as concerned as the former players because when a research came out from Boston University in the Department of Veteran Affairs, they found out that 87 out of 91 retired jockeys died of CTE or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative disease that can only be diagnosed after death. This is pretty alarming for other retired NFL players and even those who are still actively playing the sport.

They want to know whether it's just a concussion or CTE. This is why they made an agreement with the International Concussion and Head Injury Research Foundation that is based in London.

Michael Turner is the medical director of the said research center and will start their search on January 2016. "Collaboration with the NFL will significantly accelerate the research we are doing with retired jockeys and help establish if there is any independent evidence that concussion has a long-term impact on health," Turner said, during an interview with ESPN.

So far, there were no exact details as to how much funds they will contribute to the research center.
