There's a method to Mike Greenberg's madness. The ESPN radio personality took a controversial take on his "Mike and Mike" show Friday, suggesting Lebron James' MVP days are over.

LeBron's Season Opening Playing Status Still Unclear

"Lebron has a lot of miles on those legs and he takes a lot of beating up, but you know what's going to happen? That's going to stop," he said. "In Cleveland, that needs to stop."

"David Blatt -- or whoever it is that becomes the coach there if it isn't Blatt -- needs to adapt to the Gregg Popovich strategy. Here's what should happen in my opinion: LeBron James should never win another NBA MVP award -- ever -- because he shouldn't play enough minutes."

NBA Sleepers That Can Shock The Cavs In The East

Greenberg is correct in that regard. Knowing that his legacy will be cemented by NBA titles, not MVP awards, there is no reason for James to wear his body out during an 82-game marathon.

His greatness will be needed for the 16-game sprint.

That strategy -- though disappointing to the fans in attendance -- will ensure James is physically capable to endure playoff run after playoff run. Allow the Steph Currys and the James Hardens of the world prove themselves during the regular season.

Show up when it counts.

That's what'll allow James to join the ranks of Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, not MVP awards.
