There was an unfortunate narrative surrounding David Price on Friday.

Yankees Not Interested In High-Priced Free Agents

With the Blue Jays facing elimination in the ALCS, the 30-year-old stepped to the mound to rewrite his own history. Price was winless his seven previous postseason starts, including two in which his team faced elimination.

Nine innings and a 4-3 loss later, the narrative remains.

Bryce Harper In Pinstripes 'Inevitable'

Admittedly, it was a lack of offense, not Price that cost the Blue Jays a victory on Friday. The right-hander pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just three runs with eight strikeouts.

But narratives aren’t interested in facts, and the Yankees shouldn’t be interested in a pitcher incapable of delivering a masterful performance in the postseason.

At least not one with a $200 million price tag.

Still a formidable talent, the free agent market will welcome Price with open arms. But teams must be wary of the package Price brings.
