Head coach Flip Saunders will not be around at all for the 2015-16 NBA season so the Timberwolves will most likely be handled by interim head coach Sam Mitchell from here on.

Saunders was diagnosed with Hodgkins’s lymphoma back in June and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment. However, there seems to have been complications resulting from such and this has hindered the original plan of seeing him back to call the shots for the T-Wolves this season.

Word about Saunders likely out for the entire season was relayed no less by general manager Glen Taylor.

"I just think his illness, I mean, it's serious. At this point, if he came back, I still think he'd have a hard time to recover all his energy and all that because he has been in the hospital for a long time" Taylor told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Being a head coach is nothing new for Sam Mitchell, having coached the Raptors from 2004-09. He is also no stranger the T-Wolves, having played for the franchise from 1989-92 and again from 1995-2002.

Mitchell has been doing some experimentation already and that included possibly using Andrew Wiggins at the two-guard position which comes as a surprise with most NBA teams embracing the small-ball philosophy.

Wiggins seems to be comfortable with it though it remains to be seen if the T-Wolves will indeed adapt a big lineup for the regular season.

Now with Mitchell likely at the helm for the 2015-16 season, he will be tasked to carry out the blueprint he and Saunders may have talked about before the winningest coach in franchise history had to undergo treatment for his cancer illness.

The Timberwolves open their 2015-16 NBA campaign when they visit the Lakers at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this coming Oct. 28.
