The chances of Derrick Rose playing in the NBA season opener this coming Tuesday just got a lot better after the Bulls star guard got some playing time in the final preseason game against the Mavericks.

Though he played for just 10 minutes wearing a clear protective mask, it was clear that the Bulls were a different team with the one-time NBA Most Valuable Player on the court.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg realized the importance of a D-Rose, pushing up the ball for their offense to take shape.

As far as the first year head coach is concerned, he sees no reason why Rose will not get playing time against the Cavs, barring any potential setbacks that could happen between now and then.

However, the question of playing time comes into mind. Rose still has a bit of swelling on his left eye after undergoing an operation for that left orbital. More to that, his double vision issues also come to mind, though Rose says that everything is much better.

The likely scenario for the Bulls first official game of the 2015-16 NBA season would see Rose log some minutes, but not as lengthy as he had been when healthy. Rose is likely to show some rust initially, not to mention lack of familiarity with the new system that Hoiberg is trying to implement.

"It was great to see him back in uniform," Hoiberg said via ESPN. "Our pace was as good as it's been all preseason when Derrick got in there and in turn the other guys were out there running with him. He got to the rim, hit a nice little pullup out there. It was a very good first effort for Derrick."
