David Price, Johnny Cueto and Zack Greinke will all be available at season's end. In previous years, all three would inevitably be linked with a move to the Bronx, but not in 2016. The Yankees are reportedly interested in a right-handed bat, middle-relief help and one starter not demanding a $200 million deal.

You know, the one that will still cost the Yankees roughly $40.1 million through 2017, per Beyond the Box Score.

The days of splurging behind them, the Yankees will look to circumvent their needs in a more pragmatic fashion.

Jeff Samardzija is one of the bargain-busting names New York will reportedly pursue in the offseason. The White Sox pitcher threw 214 innings this season, going 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA.

As for a right-handed hitting outfielder that can supplement Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury, the Yankees could turn to Atlanta's Cameron Maybin. The 28-year-old hit .267 for the Braves, finishing with 10 HRs and 59 RBI.

It's a new approach for the Yankees, but one that's capable of paying actual dividends in 2016.

Throwing money at the problem -- and only lifting one World Series title in the processs -- hasn't exactly paid off the last 15 years.
