Titans QB Zach Mettenberger confirmed he was ready to step into Sunday's game at home against the Falcons, if called upon, according to Fox Sports. The 24-year-old has served as a backup to rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota, who is dealing with a sprain suffered in Tennessee's loss to the Dolphins.

Mettenberger said that he had been prepared for the game if Mariota could not go. Mariota had not sat with the team for practice on Oct. 21. However, it has been reported that the likelihood of seeing the rookie this week against the Falcons is "pretty good."

In his interview with the team's official website, Titans Online, Mettenberger said that it was the same thinking as every week, and that nothing was actually going to change for him this week. The quarterback added that he was going to prepare like he was going to play, and that he was going to do his best if that happens.

For Mettenberger, being prepared was a responsibility of a backup, since what could happen in the game is unpredictable. He added that he had to be prepared to go in and win a football game -- and this week would be no different.

Last season, Mettenberger made six starts for the Titans as a rookie. As a sixth-round pick, the quarterback threw for 1,412 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Meanwhile, the Titans are in third place in the AFC South at 1-4.
