As the Bills head across the pond to face the Jaguars at London's Wembley Stadium for their week seven match-up, at least one player isn't making the trip: Percy Harvin. But it's not just a matter of his nagging injuries. In fact, Harvin may have skipped the trip altogether because he's already considering an early retirement.
The Buffalo News has learned from several NFL sources that Harvin is currently deciding whether his playing days are behind him as he continues to deal with the effects of a lingering hip injury. Though he's considering several options, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, retirement is definietly on the table.
Rex Ryan Is Betting On Himself In London
"I don't know where he is right now," Bills coach Rex Ryan said during a media briefing Thursday as the team prepared for their London game. Ryan added Harvin was excused for "personal reasons."
Harvin's injury is just one of many plaguing the Bills. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins is also out, as is defensive tackle Kyle Williams, running back Karlos Williams, offensive takcle Seantrel Henderson and quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
Could Johnny Manziel's Next Stop Be In Buffalo?
And that's just for this week. The team's been dealing with injuries all season, which has in part led them to a meager 3-3 record this season. Though no one was picking the Bills to win it all at the start of the season, expectation were set higher than before as the organization brought on a flurry of new talent including running back LeSean McCoy, Harvin, guard Richie Incognito, Taylor and Ryan. With that many moves, it's clear the front office was trying to shake things up in upstate New York, but with a meager start plagued with injuries, the Bills haven't seemed to get the injection of life they were looking for.
Harvin joined the NFL in 2009 as a member of the Vikings and later on Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks. Harvin signed a three-year contract with the Bills in the offseason. Harvin has not played a full 16-game season since 2011, mosty as a result of the same hip pains that have nagged him through his entire career.
