The Flames have finally unclogged their logjam at goalie by putting veteran Karri Ramo on waivers, ESPN reported.

Calgary had three goaltenders at the start of training camp with Ramo, Jonas Hiller and youngster Joni Ortio.

The team does not want to send the 24-year-old Ortio to the AHL out of fear of losing him since it would require waivers. Ortio has yet to play a game for the Flames. The 29-year-old Ramo won 32 games in two seasons with the Flames and replaced Hiller as the starter in their Western Conference playoff series against the Ducks.

Ramo, who re-signed with the Flames this past summer for one year and $3.8 million, started the season at 0-3-0 with a 4.38 goals-against average and .879 save percentage. The Flames are off to a dismal 1-5-0 start and have been outscored 25-12.

In their 6-2 loss to the Capitals on Tuesday, Flames coach Bob Hartley pulled out Ramo after allowing four goals on 18 shots while posting 14 saves.

He was replaced by Hiller, who allowed two goals on 12 shots.

Flames captain Mark Giordano admitted they've been giving up too many chances and leaving their goalies on their own. He noted that Ramo took a lot of heat for the loss and looks like "the guy to take the fall today."

The Flames would likely prefer another NHL team get Ramo rather than sending him to their AHL club.

Hartley announced that Hiller will be their starter in Friday's game against the Red Wings.
