Jimmer Fredette has been given up by the Spurs.

According to Shams Charinia of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter), San Antonio released the 26-year-old signed point guard and shooting guard Fredette. Mixed reactions can be seen among fans. Some said that Fredette's release was a bad news while others said that it was a good move done by the San Antonio-based basketball team.

After having signed by the Spurs on July 22, Fredette had played for a total of 26 minutes during the preseason and had just made a total score of four points, as per Sports Illustrated. The publication also mentioned that the American basketball player had fought back with an average of 13.7 minutes and 6.1 points in the six seasons and an average of 3.6 points in 50 games with the New Orleans Hornets last season.

According to ESPN, Fredette's ability as the team's defender seemed to have made him Spurs' liability, since the team had emphasized defense as its strategy during the pre-season. Right now, teams had to cut their rosters to 15 players before the regular reason. Along with Fredette, Spurs had also let go of Senegalese player Youssou Ndoye, Keifer Sykes and Deshaun Thomas.

On Oct. 1, Fredette told ESPN that leaving the team was a part of the growing process as a pro. He added that it did not necessarily entail that one was not good enough, but there could be other circumstances. For the Spurs guard, one had got to remain mentally ready, know that he could play, and when he could get other there to be able to compete.
