Perhaps the Cubs are cursed by yet another jinx -- "Back to the Future" Day.

In that 1989 film, Marty Mcfly (Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel in the future to Oct. 21, 2015. The future, as it turned out in the movie, saw the Cubs finally win the World Series, albeit in the impossible scenario of toppling the Marlins, a club the movie successfully predicted to be dubbed as Miami here in 2015.

Even The Game's Best Can't Get Daniel Murphy Out

But once again for this star-crossed franchise, reality has reared its ugly head. Cubs fans will enter the Friendly Confines on this, the day the film predicted they'd party like it's 1908, with their beloved Cubbies facing elimination.

Though Doc and Mcfly saw the Cubs win the Fall Classic in the movie, in real life on Oct. 21, 2015, the club faces a 3-0 series deficit against the Mets in the NLCS. For Chicago's fans, however, what got them into a 3-0 series hole is all too familiar.

Johnny Cueto Making Excuses For Struggles

In Game 3 it looked like the Cubs' fortunes were about to turn around when a Mets run-scoring double was negated by the ivy eating up the ball. However, the mood turned when crazy moments intervened, such as Lucas Duda bunting to get Yoenis Cespedes over to second and the outfielder following it up by stealing third.

Then, in excruciating fashion, Michael Conforto struck out in a play that should have ended the inning, but the ball went to the backstop, allowing Cespedes to score what proved to be the winning run and the rookie to take first base.

With a franchise that is still recovering from the Curse of the Billy Goat of 1945, the Black Cat Incident of 1969 and even the Steve Bartman Incident of 2003, the Cubs now face the reality of their magical season possibly coming to an end on the day "Back to the Future" picked them to win it all.

The one thing Chicago has going for it? Theo Epstein. Thirty-four teams have opened up 3-0 series leads in best-of-seven series' in MLB history and only one club has ever escaped that hole -- the 2004 Red Sox, who came from behind against the Yankees. Epstein was the president of the Sox at the time and he now serves as the Cubs president of baseball operations.

Still, the Cubs have been a cursed franchise and "Back to the Future" may have written their epitaph by jinxing them in 2015.

Great Scott! The Cubs may be eliminated on "Back to the Future" Day.
