Disgraced former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is not allowed to watch NFL games while being held on first-degree murder charges at the Bristol County Jail.
"While Mr. Hernandez and many other inmates would like to watch football, it is not part of our policy here, so that will not be happening," Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told TMZ.
Hernandez, 23, is being held without bail and relegated to solitary confinement in the execution style-killing of semi-pro football player and one-time associate Odin Lloyd. Under those conditions, he is allowed one hour of free time per day, but Hodgson told TMZ even that can't be used to follow his former Patriots teammates.
Hernandez pled not guilty to the murder and five-related gun charges last week during an arraignment hearing. His attorneys have requested another hearing for October 9, at which time they are expected to seek bail for their client.
Hernandez is also being investigated in connection with a 2012 double-homicide in Boston that remains unsolved. Police recently recovered the weapon they believe was used in that shooting and have also impounded a vehicle they think was also used. The car was recovered in a garage owned by a man identified as Hernandez's uncle.
Investigators have theorized Lloyd may been killed because he knew of Hernandez's alleged involvement in the Boston killing as well as potentially other crimes.
