It’s official, Oscar Pistorius, the disabled Olympic hero nicknamed the “Blade Runner” who was convicted of the “culpable homicide” of former girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, is going home. After serving one year of his five-year sentence for Steenkamp’s shooting, Pistorius is headed to his uncle’s mansion to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.

Steenkamp’s family is reportedly not upset at this move by the South African court. "Nothing will bring Reeva back," the Steenkamp attorney said ... "[Her parents] are not surprised at all by this announcement. They expected this." TMZ reports that this is a commonplace occurrence in the South African justice system. What is less common, however, is being released into a humongous mansion that might be as secure as a prison.

Delayed House Arrest Release Draws Pistorius Family's Ire

The mansion is three stories, 24 rooms, and features a magnificent luxury swimming pool, and a full gym. According to TimesLive.com, homes in that area of Pretoria can cost up to R20-million, upward of $1.5 million. While Pistorius was facing the charges and devising his legal strategy, that home served as his base of operations, and often had guards stationed around the clock.

Pistorius Has Ties To A Mob Boss

Pistorius is also not completely out of the woods. On November 3 an appeal of the culpable homicide verdict will be heard. If the verdict is overturned, Pistorius will be re-jailed, and face murder charges once again that could land him behind bars for 15 years.
