Seth Rollins is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but you wouldn't know it based on his creative direction in the company that he is supposedly the top dog in.

"The Architect" has been booked as a weak champion throughout his reign thus far, constantly losing cleanly on WWE television despite holding the richest prize in the game. It's one thing to lose to John Cena, the face of the franchise, but it's another to be defeated by Ryback and J&J Security, both which have happened during his run with the gold.

Not only that, but Rollins has been booked into mind-numbingly weak storylines as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. It was not that long ago, last month to be exact, that Rollins was running around and bitching and moaning about a statue. Now, he's involved in a Super Man-Clark Kent-esque storyline with Kane.

Yes, Kane is now portraying two characters on WWE television. There's Corporate Kane and Demon Kane, both of which are played by 48-year-old Glenn Jacobs, who the WWE has dusted off and thrust into the spotlight as what they believe to be a suitable No. 1 contender to Rollins' throne. It is, in and of itself, a microcosm of "The Architect's" reign up to this point.

5 Possible Outcomes To Seth Rollins vs. Kane

"Oh what the hell," they probably thought to themselves. "We already have Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar to sell Hell in a Cell, why not bring Demon Kane out of hibernation and make him No. 1 contender."

And that's exactly where the problem lies. There is a serious lack of long-term direction with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion -- only the man holding the most important piece of gold in the company. Rollins is now an afterthought, playing second-fiddle to Lesnar and The Undertaker.

If you also believe that Rollins is being booked weakly, you're not alone. WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, who is a genius who for some reason has been sidelined by the company, sounded off on his thoughts about Rollins' use in the WWE's storylines.

"The booking of WWE Champion Seth Rollins to rarely win on TV and to be an enhanced chickensh!t heel is a head scratcher," Ross wrote on his blog at Jrsbarbq.com. "I thoroughly understand the concept of the vulnerable antagonist but for one's champion to rarely win on TV is questionable. The booking of Rollins needs addressing IMO."

J.R., you are preaching to the choir. Rollins has lost countless matches on RAW and has only won on pay-per-view with outside help during his reign atop the WWE hierarchy. It is something that is equally as vexing as it is frustrating.

For his part, Rollins has performed at the level befitting a WWE World Heavyweight Champion, frequently putting on high-caliber matches and stealing the show on several occasions. This is the lone thing he can control before being handicapped by whatever Hollywood writer is running the script that night.

The clash with Kane could be an upside, as it could see Rollins finally defeat his demonic adversary cleanly in the ring. That may very well become a jumping-off point for the WWE to book Rollins strong all the way until WrestleMania.

That's a nice scenario to think of, but until the WWE shows a knack for any semblance of long-term creative direction with the man who is supposed to represent the company as the very best in the business, there's no reason to believe the doldrums of Rollins' reign will ever end.
